Features
The server writes the progression. A C++ engine on your computer voices it, grooves it and plays it.
A large language model writes progressions that fit your words and your genre: real extensions, modes, slash chords and anticipations. Every result shows the key, tempo, roman numerals and a one-line explanation, so you learn something every time.
Your own simple words hide complexity. Ask for “warm, a bit jazzy” and the voicings come out the way a keyboardist would play them: Complexity adds colour like 9ths and 11ths (or strips back to triads), Spread opens them up, and voice-leading keeps every note moving as little as possible from chord to chord. ROLL tries another voicing of the same style.
Density, Swing and Humanize shape the groove; ROLL picks another pattern. It all renders locally and instantly, with no server round trip.
Lock any chord, type “darker bar 3, more tension before the loop” and hit REFINE. Want a different take on the same idea? NEW HARMONY. HISTORY steps back and forward through the last 50 results, saved with your project.
KEY shows the progression’s key. The arrows transpose it a semitone at a time, or pick a tonic under TRANSPOSE TO. That happens instantly, with no server round trip: locks stay and playback carries on. Choose another mode under MODE (REFINE), say F minor to F dorian, and the server re-voices it in that mode, keeping the harmonic rhythm and bass motion.
Pick a voice for the built-in synth with the SOUND arrows, the list, or the PATCH knob. LEVEL sets its volume.
Press play in your DAW and the progression loops from bar 1, locked to your tempo. With the transport stopped, PLAY previews it. The built-in synth means you hear chords the second you load it.
Switch the synth off and drive any instrument from Chord Agent 2’s MIDI output. When it’s right, drag the MIDI straight into a clip or the arrangement: the exact voicings, rhythm and feel you heard.

FAQ
A Mac with macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, Apple Silicon or Intel, or a 64-bit PC with Windows 10 or 11. On Mac, Chord Agent 2 comes as VST3, Audio Unit and a Standalone app; on Windows, as VST3 and a Standalone app.
Yes for GENERATE, REFINE, NEW HARMONY and mode changes: the harmony is written on our server. Everything after that runs on your computer and works offline: knobs, voicing and rhythm styles, ROLL, transpose, sounds, playback, MIDI out and drag MIDI.
Any host that loads VST3 instruments, or AU on Mac, such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Bitwig Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper and FL Studio. Drag MIDI works everywhere; routing its live MIDI output to another track depends on your host.
Put Chord Agent 2 on a MIDI track. Create another MIDI track with your instrument, set MIDI From to the Chord Agent 2 track (choose Chord Agent 2 in the second dropdown), arm it or set Monitor to In, then switch SYNTH off in Chord Agent 2.
No. Install Chord Agent 2, open LICENSE, choose “I have a v1 serial instead” and enter the email and serial you already have: you get a Chord Agent 2 key back. How the upgrade works. Lost your serial? Email support@sonic-weapons.com.
